Tomorrow, My Dear…
Emma and Jerry move in to a new house. It has 2 floors. There are 3 rooms on the second floor, and
the kitchen and the living room are on the first floor. They also have their own garage. The house
is nice and big. They are very happy to live there. There is only one problem…
When they just moved in Jerry put many of his stuff in the garage. Now the garage is very crowded.
It is so crowded that there is no room for a car!
Emma has a car, and she needs to park it. She needs the garage without all those boxes.
"Jerry," she says, "when are you going to free the garage from all of these boxes?"
And Jerry simply replies, "Tomorrow, my dear, tomorrow."
The next day Emma asks, "When are you going to free the garage from all of these boxes?"
And Jerry simply replies, "Tomorrow, my dear, tomorrow."
After a week Emma asks, "When are you going to free the garage from all of these boxes?"
And Jerry simply replies, "Tomorrow, my dear, tomorrow."
So after a while Emma is pretty annoyed. (Can you blame her?)
"What can I do?" she thinks to herself. "It doesnt help when I ask him. It doesnt help when I
talk with him. Nothing seems to help – the boxes are still there, and I cant park my car in the
garage!"
She walks over to the garage to take a look, and sees that nothing is changed.
"Well," she thinks, "maybe I can do it myself. I mean, its Jerrys stuff, but still…"
She starts moving things around when Jerry suddenly arrives.
"Emma! What are you doing?" he calls.
"I am helping you with these boxes. We need to free the garage!" she answers.
Jerry looks at her and says, "Yeah, but this is my stuff. You have to let me do it myself. Only I
know exactly what to do with each thing."
"But Jerry, I dont have a place to park my car! I have to drive around the neighborhood to find
parking!" she calls.
"Well, Ill just have to do it tomorrow then," he replies.
Emma looks at Jerry. She is speechless. "Jerry," she says finally, "its not fair, you know that."
Jerry looks at Emma. "Hmm. You are right. It is not fair. What do you suggest?"
Emma thinks about it for a minute and then starts smiling.
It is a month later now. The boxes are still in the garage. Emma is sitting in the living room. She
is smiling. She made a deal with Jerry: as long as he doesnt free the garage from his stuff he has
to do all the dishes, for both of them. So now Emma is happy. She never does the dishes!
